China Xiaomi Inc Launches Company 1st India-Made Redmi 2

China's Xiaomi Inc has joined forces with Taiwan-based tech giant Foxconn to start assembling phones in India, seeking to cut costs and grab a bigger slice of the world's third-largest smartphone market.

The factory, in Andhra Pradesh, is a fillip for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has championed a campaign to turn India into a manufacturing powerhouse to boost economic growth and create much-needed employment.

India is the world's fastest growing smartphone market, but so far a lack of good suppliers and infrastructure have hampered efforts to manufacture phones in the country, forcing most of India's more than 100 different phone companies to import from China and Taiwan.

From Monday, the south Indian assembly line will roll out Xiaomi's first locally made smartphone, the Redmi2 Prime, an India-specific upgrade to its best-selling Redmi2 budget smartphone. It was launched at Rs 6,999, company executives said.

Neither Xiaomi nor contract electronics maker Foxconn disclosed the size of their investment or future production capacity. The Indian market, which Xiaomi entered in July 2014, has fast become its second-largest, as the company's low-priced phones find favour with young and cost-conscious customers.

In the April-June quarter, Xiaomi ranked seventh in terms of smartphone shipments in India -- a segment that is dominated by Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and India's Micromax Informatics Ltd, according to Counterpoint Research.

Manu Jain, Xiaomi's India head, said that apart from bringing tax benefits, the new facility would help the company better manage inventory and reduce lead times from three to four weeks to under two weeks."Over time, most Xiaomi phones sold in India will be made in India," Jain said, though that could take some time given the lack of development of the local supply chain.

Xiaomi, battling slowing sales in China, is betting on emerging markets such as India and Brazil, where it began manufacturing in late June, to fuel growth. The number of smartphone users in India stood at around 140 million in 2014. It is expected to reach 651 million by 2019, according to a study by Cisco.

The assembly line marks a return to India for Foxconn, officially known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. The world's largest contract electronics manufacturer was forced to shut up shop in Asia's third-largest economy last year after client Nokia stopped making phones at its plant.

As individual Indian states increasingly vie for investment, Monday's opening is also a victory for Andhra Pradesh and its charismatic leader N. Chandrababu Naidu, who oversaw the development of tech hub Hyderabad, now in a different state.

Foxconn, a key supplier to Apple Inc, has been among the firms making the most of Indian states' newfound competitive streak. It signed a $5 billion investment deal with the western state of Maharashtra on Saturday.

Pakistani Woman Illegally Enters India To Meet Salman Khan Check Out These Other Crazy Bhai Fans

#BajrangiBhaijaanstorm has touched people not only in India but across the globe. From crowding the theaters before his releases to swarming outside his Galaxy Apartment and to even disrupting traffic around the court while he is on trial, these fans can go to great lengths for their favorite actor Salman Khan.

On July 30, a woman from Pakistan was detained on Jalandhar railway station for apparently travelling without a passport and she said that she came to India just to have a glimpse of Salman Khan as well as Shah Rukh Khan, according to DailyBouncer.

The 27-year old, Chanda said that her documents are with her family who left for another station while travelling in the Samjhauta Express.

A young man called Malik Babubhai Shishangiya sat on a hunger strike just to meet the actor. Many people were moved by the Bajrangi Bhaijaan's climax but a little girl wept uncontrollably after seeing a mute Munni yell 'Mama' and declared her love for Salman.

One fan, Naveen Raj Chauhan, was willing to take the actor's misfortune on himself if found guilty in 2002 hit-and- run case. Another fan tried to commit suicide by poisoning himself outside the Bombay High Court.

Two fans have opened up an entire restaurant dedicated to Bhaijaan called Bhaijaanz. The Bandra restaurant is nearly a temple to the star with the walls clad with his posters and the menu categorized as per his films and songs.

There are some fans who have copied Salman's style in any way they can. Don't forget the dreaded endemic of middle-parted hair when Tere Naam released or the turquoise studded bracelet that every roadside romeo sports.

Sonakshi Sinha Eagerly Waiting To Play Dawood Ibrahims Sister In haseena The Queen Of Mumbai

Sonakshi Sinha is on a roll. She is all set to play underworld king Dawood Ibrahim's favourite sister Haseena in a biopic directed by Apoorva Lakhia.

According to a report in DailyBouncer, the actress is going to be playing the notorious gangster who reigned the Mumbai underworld after her husband Ismail Parkar was killed by a rival gang.

Sona has often been accused of not experimenting much with her choice of roles with the sole exception of Lootera. But she has definitely taken some strides to change all that.

This is not the first time Sonakshi would be doing a movie based on the underworld. Milan Luthria's Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara! had her play the love interest of the gangster (supposedly based on Dawood Ibrahim's life). But it was a supporting role. This time though she dons the titular character as the 'Godmother of Nagpada' and would definitely be breaking some norms.

The film is likely to go on floors by early 2016. Before that though, we will see Sonakshi on the big screen along with Konkona Sen Sharma packing some punches in Akira which releases later this year.

India Bans Porngraphy Clampdown On Internet Porn Sparks Censorship Debate

India has blocked hundreds of adult websites to prevent pornography becoming a social nuisance, a government official said on Monday, sparking a debate about censorship and freedom in the world’s largest democracy.

In India’s first big crackdown on Internet porn, service providers have been directed to block 857 websites, N.N. Kaul, a spokesman at the department of telecommunications, told DailyBouncer.

“Free and open access to porn websites has been brought under check,” Kaul said. “We don’t want them to become a social nuisance.” The government, in a 17-page order issued on July 31 and leaked to freedom of speech activists on Monday, listed offending sites and directed service providers to block access on the grounds of morality and decency.

Last month, the Supreme Court refused to impose an outright ban after hearing a petition that said Internet porn fuelled sex crime. The court said individuals should be free to access such websites in private.

But the court asked the home ministry to submit its views and the government acted after the ministry sent a letter to the telecom secretary, Kaul said.

Over the weekend, several sites became inaccessible and displayed messages that they were blocked on instructions of the competent authority. The hash tag #Pornban became a trend on Twitter.

“Porn ban is anti-freedom, impractical, not enforceable. Politically not very smart too. Avoidable. Let’s not manage people’s private lives” best-selling novelist Chetan Bhagat posted on Twitter.

India has the second largest number of internet users after China. Social media and smartphone use is growing rapidly.

In 2011, India urged social network companies to screen content and remove offensive material. A year later, the government faced criticism for ordering dozens of Twitter accounts to be blocked for spreading rumours.

Censorship extends to Bollywood and Hollywood movies, with regulators often forcing producers to edit dialogues and scenes to suit audiences in the generally conservative country.

Demand for porn, however, seems strong. Pornhub, an adult entertainment website included in the ban, last year said India ranked fifth for daily visitors.

Kaul said the government was working on a long-term solution and suggested the ban would not remain indefinitely.
